Emily Hughes is a Licensed and Board Certified Creative Arts Therapist with over a decade of experience helping adults navigate anxiety, low self-esteem, and life transitions. She integrates creative arts therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based practices to support her clients. Emily is dedicated to providing LGBTQIA+ affirming care, using both talk therapy and creative practices to create a safe space for clients to explore their experiences and develop coping skills and inner strength.
Emily holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Therapy and Psychology from Marywood University and a Master of Professional Studies degree in Art Therapy and Creativity Development from Pratt Institute. She has worked in various settings, including community non-profit spaces, schools, private practice, and social justice and environmental activism programs. Emily also has experience supervising other therapists and engages regularly in continuing education to stay current in her practice.
Emily values building therapeutic relationships that foster safety and facilitate change. She believes in utilizing diverse modalities to meet the unique needs of her clients, empowering them to make positive changes in their lives.
Outside of her role as a therapist, Emily is an active artist, enjoying collage, resin, and mixed media art as part of her self-care routine. She is licensed to work with clients located in New York State. Emily is a member of the American Art Therapy Association and an affiliate therapist of Philosophical and Cognitive Therapy (PACT).
